The event was held on November 18th-19th at the Emei Campus. Li Zhuohui, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Physics, Guo Jian, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Dean, Chen Xi, Member of the Party Committee of the College, Assistant Dean, all counselors of the Student Affairs Office, all members of the Physics Elite Class, and some student backbones participated. Some teachers and students from the School of Foreign Languages were invited to participate.

At the opening ceremony at 9:00 am on the 18th, Li Zhuohui, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Physics, expressed the hope that through this training, students could improve their political literacy, enhance their sense of unity and cooperation, inherit and carry forward the spirit of scientists, and establish the pursuit of scientific research and the country. Zheng Jianping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Emei Campus, briefly introduced the overall situation of Emei Campus at the opening ceremony and hoped that everyone would feel the profound history of Jiaotong University in the campus while arranging their studies.

On the morning of November 18th, Li Xueyong, Deputy Dean of the School of Marxism, brought a baptism of thought to the students with the theme of “casting the soul and increasing wisdom, promoting positive energy and promoting work”. He emphasized that young people in the new era should firmly establish their ideals and beliefs, temper their original aspirations and missions, and strive to grow into talents who can bear great responsibilities. In the afternoon of November 18th, the training class organized a quality development activity. The students who participated in this activity were not only science and engineering students from the School of Physics, but also liberal arts students from the School of Foreign Languages. Everyone cooperated in groups and contributed their wisdom and strength in the competition. The students felt the importance of teamwork in the activity.

On the morning of November 19th, the training class came to the China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute, a patriotic education demonstration base in Sichuan Province, and known as the “cradle of China’s nuclear power engineering”. The students listened carefully to the outstanding contributions made by scientists represented by “model of the times” Academician Peng Shilu to the establishment and development of China’s nuclear power industry. They admired the deeds of the older generation of scientists who dedicated themselves to the country, and expressed their desire to inherit and carry forward the spirit of scientists who “cherish the motherland, serve the people, climb high, dare to be the first, pursue the truth, be rigorous in learning, be indifferent to fame and wealth, and unite and cooperate”. In the afternoon of November 19th, everyone visited China’s first “artificial sun” device, the China Circulator I, at the China Fusion Science Museum, and experienced the charm of cutting-edge technology through VR devices. While constantly admiring, everyone expressed that this research and study practice was closely integrated with professional learning, further deepening their understanding of the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which proposed that “science and technology are the primary productive forces, talents are the first resource, and innovation is the first driving force”. They will continue to be guided by the spirit of scientists, devote themselves to the great cause of scientific research and the country.

During the two days of research and study, with the strong support and orderly organization of the relevant leaders and teachers of the Education and Training Institute at Emei Campus, the students deeply felt the depth of theory and the warmth of practice, and were able to improve and exercise in knowledge, belief, action, learning, thinking, and application. In the future, students of physics will surely uphold the spirit of “seeking truth from facts and integrating knowledge with practice”, continue to forge ahead, and achieve new achievements!
