At 14:00 on December 7, the 2018 Forum of Physics Frontiers and Development of Southwest Jiaotong University was successfully held in the multi-function hall of Jinghu Hotel, Jiuli Campus.

The forum invited Zhang Ruiqin - Professor of City University of Hong Kong, Director of Algorithm Department of Beijing Computing Science Research Center, Overseas Dean of School of Physics Science and Technology, Wang Hao - Assistant Professor of National Institute of Nuclear Fusion Science, Yu Yaoguang - Postdoctoral of Hong Kong City University, Zhang Wu - Harvard University postdoctoralto do a wonderful academic report. Liu Yu, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Physical Science and Technology, attended the forum and delivered a speech. More than 80 people attended the forum, including the party and government leadership, the young teacher team, and the doctoral and graduate students at the School of Physical Science and Technology. The forum was chaired by Jia Huanyu, director of the Professor's Committee of the School of Physical Science and Technology.

Liu Yu said in his speech that this forum focuses on the frontiers and development of physics, focusing on research achievements and progress in physics-related fields and international hot topics, aiming to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields of physics, and promote scientific research and the common development of talent cultivation and other aspects, we hope that all experts, scholars, teachers and students will use valuable forum time to conduct in-depth exchanges and discussions on relevant professional fields. At the same time, we hope to strengthen the links between the parties in the future, and hope that experts and scholars will give valuable advice on the development of the college.

Professor Zhang Ruiqin gave a report entitled "Mechanism and Exciton Structure of Charge Separation in Carbon Nanotubes and Graphene Quantum Dots". The report focuses on carbon-based materials found in recent research with new applications in optical sensing, photocatalysis, biosensing, and solar cells. Graphene quantum dots and carbon nitride quantum dots. Professor Zhang Ruiqin gave a detailed introduction to the use of time-dependent tight-binding density functional (TD-DFTB) theoretical simulations, methods of research and conclusions. In the report, Professor Zhang Ruiqin pointed out the importance of physics calculations - "I don't understand the experiment, the calculation can understand." And stressed that the intersection of disciplines in physics research is a trend.

Dr. Wang Hao presented a report entitled "The numerical simulation of geodesic acoustic modes for high-energy particles in annular plasma". He introduced his latest research results: two physical phenomena focused on by numerical simulation, one is to reveal the excitation mechanism of half-frequency mode accompanied by sweeping high-energy particle geodesic acoustic mode, the other is to reveal the physical mechanism of high-energy particle geodesic acoustic mode improving plasma heating efficiency. Dr. Wang Hao said that the research on swept and half-frequency modes has broadened people's understanding of the new type of instability. The mechanism of energy absorption by ions is revealed in the study of abnormal increase of plasma temperature, which can improve the heating efficiency of ions. The application of these studies is to solve human energy problems.

Dr. Yu Yaoguang published a report entitled "Surface/Interface Regulation in the Process of Photo-Electric/Thermal Conversion". He focused on how to design high-efficiency solar-chemical/thermal energy conversion materials, a series of studies on controllable surface/interface modification, energy band regulation and reaction mechanism, and how to regulate the properties of space charge layer and surface heterogeneity by constructing heterogeneous structures. A series of high performance solar-chemical/thermal energy conversion materials have been obtained by sub-selective modification. Dr. Yu Yaoguang said that today, with the rapid development of society and economy, people's demand for clean energy has never been so urgent. Solar energy is a renewable and clean energy. The research on its efficient utilization is a hotspot in the fields of physics, chemistry, materials and other disciplines.

In his report entitled Real-time Control of Electromagnetic Waves by Remouldable Artificial Metamaterials, Dr. Zhang Wu introduced the principle and application of the modulation of electromagnetic waves by using Artificial Metamaterials. He analyzed in detail the array structure of artificial metamaterials using sub-wavelength elements to change the amplitude, phase and polarization of electromagnetic waves by coupling with electromagnetic waves. By means of micro-electro-mechanical technology and micro-fluidic technology, the structure of the metamaterial unit is reconstructed, and the oscillation condition of electromagnetic wave in the metamaterial is changed to achieve the real-time active modulation of terahertz wave and microwave. It realizes a series of functions such as electromagnetic wave filtering, absorption, polarization control and so on.

After the end of each guest's report, the teachers and classmates who participated in the meeting enthusiastically asked questions about their own content, and had a lively and in-depth exchange and discussion with the report guests.
