School Party and Government Leaders Conduct Comprehensive Research and Discussions with Various Departments

In order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the 15th Party Congress of the school, improve teaching quality, and promote the development of various teaching departments, from February 23 to March 16, 2023, Liu Yu, the secretary of the school Party Committee, and Jia Huanyu, the vice president, successively conducted research and guidance on three teaching departments. Guo Jian, Wei Zhenxing, Li Xiangqiang, Li Jinlong and other comrades participated in the research. Ni Yuxiang, Assistant Dean and Director of Applied Physics Department, Zhang Jianqiong, Director of Electronic Information Science and Technology Department, and leaders of various disciplines and teachers from each department participated in the discussions.

At the research symposium, each teaching department conducted discussions on teaching and research, talent cultivation, professional construction, assessment and evaluation, and faculty strength, and reflected on the difficulties currently faced. These include issues such as professional training programs, course and textbook construction, application of physics professional direction and brand characteristics, project-based professional courses, and characteristics of top-notch training, teacher title structure and young teacher growth, laboratory equipment iteration optimization, and student quality. Liu Yu, the secretary of the school Party Committee, and Jia Huanyu, the vice president, listened carefully to the opinions and suggestions of representatives from various departments, and exchanged ideas and discussions with attending teachers. The teachers spoke truthfully and expressed their opinions, contributing their wisdom to the development of the school and proposing many constructive suggestions, achieving the research purpose of \facing problems, filling gaps, working together, and seeking common development.\At the meeting, Vice President Jia Huanyu answered questions and requirements raised by the teachers, fully affirmed the development and construction work of each teaching department and professional teachers, and stated that the school leadership team will focus on the difficulties and pain points in the development and construction of the school, deepen reforms, and propose corresponding work requirements: first, continue to make good use of the school's talent policies, adhere to the principle of “emphasizing both introduction and cultivation,” and strengthen the training of young teachers. Second, strengthen the construction of teaching teams and combine it with the overall improvement of the quality of independent talent training. Third, take the revision of the undergraduate training program as an opportunity to deepen education and teaching reforms and improve the quality of talent training. Fourth, use multiple measures to enhance students' employment competitiveness and increase the rate of further education. Fifth, strengthen external contacts and actively expand new opportunities for cooperation and development. In the follow-up work, we must pay attention to quality, form highlights, and promote the development of various tasks in the school.

Secretary Liu Yu analyzed the current situation and tasks, stating that the development of the school has entered a new stage and we must adhere to the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talents. According to the development concept of “emphasizing teaching, strengthening research, revitalizing disciplines, and cultivating new people” proposed at the party member congress, we must adhere to steady progress and high-quality development, and build the physics school into a high-level, strong-characteristic, vibrant, efficient, and coordinated development institute as soon as possible. First, we must deeply analyze the current situation of disciplines and talent cultivation, find gaps and fill shortcomings through multidimensional comparison inside and outside the school, further improve the top-level design, enhance talent training capabilities and quality, improve the support and service capabilities of the “double first-class,” and orderly promote the construction and training efforts of “gold majors,” “gold courses,” “gold teachers,” and “gold textbooks,” and achieve more high-quality education and teaching results. Second, we must strengthen the cross-integration of disciplines, deeply promote project-based professional course teaching, realize effective research feeding teaching, and form physics characteristics. Third, we must further catch up with the concepts, systems, and models of professional talent cultivation, benchmarking, and grasping the construction of first-class professional projects, and cultivate high-quality composite top-notch talents. He emphasized that each department should deeply grasp the requirements of connotative high-quality development for education and teaching, fully mobilize the enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity of the entire department's teachers and students, and have ideas, plans, and measures. Using an entrepreneurial spirit that does not wait for the time, we must jointly promote the improvement of the quality and efficiency of the school's education and teaching work.
