Department of Physics Holds Teaching Seminar

On the afternoon of May 11th, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the Physics Department Teaching Room of the School of Physical Science and Technology held the fourth teaching seminar of this semester in room X30383. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Gao Simin, and all teachers from the theoretical teaching room and the integration of theory and experiment teaching room of the Physics Department participated in the meeting.


The meeting mainly covered the following aspects:


1. Professor Huang Daihui summarized the key points and difficulties of reviewing the spacetime view of special relativity. The spacetime view of special relativity is a difficult point for students to learn special relativity. Professor Huang summarized the relativity of simultaneity, the relativity of time measurement, and the relativity of space measurement, emphasizing the judgment of the original time, the understanding of clock slowdown, and the shortening of moving rulers. The key points and difficulties are judging the original time and non-original length. Professor Huang used the example of an athlete to illustrate how to judge the original time and non-original length. Finally, Professor Huang summarized the common mistakes students make when doing problems, and discussed how to guide students to analyze problems and use formulas cleverly to avoid mistakes.

2. Dr. Ma Chihua discussed the understanding of the spacetime view of special relativity. Dr. Ma shared his understanding of the spacetime view of special relativity. In order to help students better understand the spacetime view of special relativity, Dr. Ma proposed the concepts of light-like interval, time-like interval, and space-like interval, explaining that the time sequence in special relativity will not violate causality. At the same time, he guided students to understand the relativity of simultaneity in special relativity from the absolute causality of time-like interval and the relativity of simultaneity of space-like interval. Here, Dr. Ma introduced ideological and political education into the course of the Tianwen-1 Mars landing. This teaching seminar focused on the discussion of the spacetime view of special relativity, emphasizing how to help students better understand the spacetime view of special relativity and how to better understand the measurement of time and space, providing help for teachers' teaching of special relativity in the future.
