To deepen the study and implementation of the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the 15th Party Congress of the University, improve the quality of teaching, and promote the development of various teaching departments, from February 23 to March 16, 2023, Liu Yu, the Party Secretary of the school of Physics, and Jia Huanyu, the Vice President, conducted research and guidance on three teaching departments respectively. Comrades Guo Jian, Wei Zhenxing, Li Xiangqiang, and Li Jinlong, who are deputy secretaries and deputy deans, participated in the research. Ni Yuxiang, the assistant dean and director of the Department of Applied Physics, Zhang Jianqiong, the director of the Department of Electronic Information Science and Technology, and the leaders of various disciplines and teachers from each department participated in the discussions.
At the research symposium, each teaching department conducted discussions on teaching and research, talent cultivation, professional construction, assessment and evaluation, and faculty strength, and reflected on the current difficulties, such as professional training programs, course and textbook construction, the direction and brand characteristics of applied physics majors, project-oriented professional courses, and the characteristics of top-notch class training, faculty title structure and growth of young teachers, laboratory equipment iteration and optimization, and the quality of students. Liu Yu, the Party Secretary of the Department of Physics, and Jia Huanyu, the Vice President, listened carefully to the opinions and suggestions of the representatives of each department, and exchanged and discussed with the attending teachers from time to time.
The teachers spoke candidly and contributed their wisdom to the development of the college, proposing many constructive suggestions, achieving the research purpose of ‘facing problems, filling gaps, working together, and seeking common development’ At the meeting, Vice President Jia Huanyu answered the questions and needs raised by the teachers, fully affirmed the development and construction work of each teaching department and the contributions of professional teachers, and stated that the college leadership team will focus on the difficulties and pain points of the college construction and development, deepen reform, and put forward corresponding work requirements: First, continue to make good use of the school's talent policies, adhere to the principle of ‘emphasis on both introducing and cultivating’ and strengthen the training of young teachers. Second, strengthen the construction of teaching teams and combine it with comprehensively improving the quality of independent talent cultivation. Third, take the revision of undergraduate training programs as an opportunity to deepen education and teaching reforms and improve the quality of talent cultivation. Fourth, take multiple measures to enhance students' competitiveness in employment and increase the rate of admission to higher education. Fifth, strengthen external contacts and actively explore new space for cooperation and development.
In the follow-up work, we must focus on quality, form highlights, and drive the development of various work in the college. Party Secretary Liu Yu analyzed the current situation and tasks. He pointed out that the development of the college has entered a new stage, and we must adhere to the fundamental task of cultivating people with high moral character. According to the development concept of ‘emphasizing teaching, strengthening scientific research, revitalizing disciplines, and cultivating new talents’ proposed by the Party Congress, we must adhere to steady progress and high-quality development, and build the Department of Physics into a high-level, strong, dynamic, efficient, and coordinated development college as soon as possible. First, we must deeply analyze the current situation of disciplines and talent cultivation, find gaps and fill shortcomings through multidimensional comparisons inside and outside the school, further improve top-level design, enhance the ability and quality of talent cultivation, improve the ability to support and serve the construction of top-notch disciplines, and orderly promote the construction and cultivation of ‘gold majors’ ‘gold courses’ ‘gold teachers’ and ‘gold textbooks’ and achieve more high-quality education and teaching results. Second, we must strengthen interdisciplinary integration, deepen the project-oriented professional course teaching, realize the effective feedback of scientific research to teaching, and form the characteristics of physics. Third, we must keep up with the concepts, systems, and models of professional talent cultivation, benchmarking and comparison, and solidly promote the construction of first-class professional programs in the country, and cultivate high-quality and compound top-notch talents. He emphasized that each department should deeply grasp the requirements of connotation-based high-quality development for education and teaching, fully mobilize the enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity of all teachers and students, and make plans and measures with a sense of urgency to jointly promote the improvement of the quality and efficiency of education and teaching in the school.
