On Thursday afternoon, April 6, 2023, the Physics Department Party Branch held a political study activity for all faculty members in classroom X1301. The study content included: 1. Learning the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the spirit of the National People's Congress; 2. The background of ideological and political education in university physics courses and feedback from recent curriculum ideological and political work conferences. The purpose of this meeting was to deeply study and implement the concept of promoting the development of science and education and ideological and political education in the classroom, further enhancing the political consciousness, overall situation consciousness, core consciousness, and alignment consciousness of all Party members in the Physics Department Party Branch, and contributing to the high-quality development of physics teaching and scientific research. The meeting was chaired by Vice Secretary Zhu Hao.
The first item on the agenda was presented by Secretary Liu Yu from the school of Physical Science and Technology, who lectured on “Learning the Spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Spirit of the National People's Congress.” First, Secretary Liu hoped that teachers would earnestly study the importance of the spirit of the 20th National Congress and the National People's Congress, fully implement Xi Jinping's thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, deeply understand the decisive significance of “two consolidations,” enhance the “four consciousnesses,” strengthen the “four confidences,” and achieve “two maintenances.” We must persist in learning, thinking, practicing, and implementing these concepts in our daily work and life. Secretary Liu also conveyed the relevant spirit of the school's Political Consultative Conference and National People's Congress representatives regarding the two sessions, combining it with the key tasks of the 2023 National Education Work Conference. Secretary Liu proposed the keyword for today's study: promoting the development of science and education. As university teachers, we should deeply study and understand the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, improve our political stance, comprehensively implement the fundamental task of moral education and talent cultivation, and cultivate top-notch innovative talents for building a socialist modernized country. We should deeply understand the fundamental and strategic support role of education, science and technology, and talent in comprehensively building a socialist modernized country. As an important base for training talents in our country, universities bear great responsibilities. We must grasp the new requirements of the times for education and teaching development, and comprehensively improve the quality of independent cultivation of top students in basic disciplines. Secretary Liu particularly mentioned that in order to improve our country's level of technological innovation, the country is undergoing institutional reforms in scientific and technological innovation. He hoped that we, as educators and scientific and technological workers in universities, should pay attention to and adapt to these changes. Secretary Liu also mentioned that the Ministry of Education has recently issued a plan for the adjustment, optimization, and reform of professional programs in universities. Our school will also adjust and optimize relevant professional training programs. As a department responsible for teaching basic courses, we should be proactive, actively connect, and adjust and optimize teaching work to continuously improve the quality of talent cultivation. Finally, based on the specific work situation of the school of Physical Science and Technology, Secretary Liu conveyed the important spirit of the recent joint meeting of the school's Party and government, introduced the work priorities of our school in 2023, and hoped that everyone would take the opportunity of the undergraduate teaching work conference held by the school this year to continuously explore and innovate and improve the quality of education and teaching.
The second item on the agenda was presented by Teacher Sun Yanyun, who conveyed the learning experiences and relevant spirit of the “National University Physics Curriculum Ideological and Political Work Conference” held by the University Physics Curriculum Guidance Committee. First, Teacher Sun introduced the background and relevant information of this ideological and political work conference. Then she vividly introduced several reports and learning experiences from the conference, such as the report by Professor Wang Qing from Tsinghua University, who advocated that ideological and political education in the curriculum is a method, not an addition, and that ideological and political education and the curriculum should develop from a mixture to integration and then to compound. Curriculum ideological and political education should be deeper, more practical, and sustainable. Similarly, Professor Wang Xiaoli from Xi'an Jiaotong University emphasized that curriculum ideological and political education should implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress, focus on what kind of people to cultivate, how to cultivate them, and for whom to cultivate them, and should serve and contribute to the strategy of building a modernized socialist country. Then, she introduced many other vivid examples of curriculum ideological and political education, which inspired everyone deeply. She also conveyed some suggestions and opinions on the ideological and political education of theoretical and experimental physics courses. Finally, Professor Wu Ping, as the judge of this conference, summarized the integration of ideological and political elements into the curriculum.
At this meeting, the Physics Department Party Branch focused on studying and implementing the concept of promoting the development of science and education and ideological and political education in the classroom, conducting in-depth interpretations of “deeply understanding the importance of promoting the development of science and education and accurately grasping its connotation requirements and promoting the practice and effectiveness of ideological and political education in the classroom.” Teachers at the meeting expressed that they should deeply understand the importance of promoting the development of science and education and ideological and political education in the classroom, integrate it into all aspects of physics teaching and scientific research work, and continuously improve the ability of the Physics Department to serve the construction of world-class universities.
