On the morning of December 3, Professor Chen Min, Vice President of Shantou University and Secretary-General of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Physics Majors of the Ministry of Education, visited the School of Physical Science and Technology for an academic exchange on the cultivation of top physics talent. In his presentation titled "Leaving Space for Genius," Professor Chen shared his educational philosophy and insights into the characteristics of nurturing exceptional talent. He emphasized the importance of providing students with flexible curricula, personalized learning plans, and ample time and space for growth.
Professor Chen also introduced the selection and training mechanisms, which include a multidimensional talent selection strategy, scientific performance assessment standards, and the design of specialized courses aimed at enhancing students' experimental skills and learning efficiency. Additionally, he shared his experiences in international cooperation and exchange, as well as the "dual-labeling" management model and interdisciplinary mechanisms.
The seminar was hosted by Vice Dean Ni Yuxiang and attended by Dean Jia Huanyu, Party Secretary Li Zhuohui, Vice Dean and Deputy Secretary Guo Jian, along with several faculty members and student advisors. The attending faculty expressed great interest in Professor Chen's innovative educational model and engaged in in-depth discussions on how to apply these concepts and practices to the cultivation of top physics talent at Southwest Jiaotong University.
